Secret Bluebell wood opens to the public

If experiencing one of the truly great spectacles of the English countryside in late spring appeals to you then a visit to Hodsock Priory is a must.  Renowned for its amazing snowdrops display the historic priory will for the first time be officially opening its doors, in May, to welcome visitors to delight in and meander through its secret Bluebell wood.
 
Hodsock Priory, located near Blyth on the border of South Yorkshire and North Nottinghamshire  has this year celebrated its 21st anniversary of snowdrops, and George Buchanan, ninth generation resident and general manager commented: “We have thousands of visitors to our fabulous snowdrop display each February but this year we will be opening our doors to a whole new spectacle that very few people have witnessed before here at Hodsock.”

Chocolatier to the royals exhibits at Hodsock Priory

If a blanket of spectacular snowdrops, delicious home-made cakes in a historic priory and fun treasure trails for all the family isn’t enough to keep you occupied, one local attraction is also hosting a bespoke food and craft fair on two weekends in February.
 
Hodsock Priory, located near Blyth on the border of South Yorkshire and North Nottinghamshire is famous for its annual snowdrop spectacular, and in honour of its twenty first anniversary has invited a host of local food and craft professionals to exhibit in its wonderful grounds.   The fair will take place on 18th/19th and 25th/26th February and provide even more for visitors to enjoy. “We are delighted to have such a stunning selection of local and regional craft and produce people including Barry Colenso, Master Chocolatier who created stunning chocolate flowers for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding cake,” commented George Buchanan.

Scouts celebrate 100 years at Hodsock

Worksop District Scout Association celebrated its100th anniversary with the placing of a commemorative bench in the renowned gardens of Hodsock Priory whilst members also enjoyed a celebratory black tie dinner at the stunning venue.

The long association with Hodsock Priory dates back as far as 1911 when Lieutenant Colonel Henry Mellish, resident at Hodsock and cousin to the current owners of Hodsock, held the accolade of the first District Commissioner of the Scout Association. Decades later, eighth generation owner of Hodsock, Sir Andrew Buchanan Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, enjoyed a term as President during the 1980’s.

A Shining Star

Entering into a new career can often be a challenging and daunting time but, for one local hospitality employee, it was definitely the right thing to do as she scooped a top award less than twelve months after swapping exams papers for event organising!

Lindsay Jones, Conference and Events Manager at Hodsock Priory was awarded ‘Best New Entrant’ at the 2011 Nottinghamshire Stars awards ceremony recognising her commitment to her new role.

Snowdrops in summer? – It's all in the planning

Preparations are already underway to make one of the country’s original Snowdrop Spectaculars particularly special in 2012 as it celebrates its twenty first birthday, and as an ideal venue for coach tours the annual Hodsock Snowdrops offers a premium visitor experience.

Held each February in the grounds of the family owned Hodsock Priory, located on the border of North Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire, a series of special events are being planned throughout the month to honour of such a significant birthday.

Country house welcomes local actress to picnic theatre event

Hodsock Priory located near Blyth is proud to be a venue for Shakespeare’s Globe theatre for three nights during June 2011 when the prestigious theatre performs the comedy classic ‘As You Like It’ to picnicking guests for the first time ever at Hodsock and indeed in Nottinghamshire.

And, whilst a warm welcome will be extended to the whole team, it is particularly fitting that Emma Pallant, a local lady, will be in the cast playing a dual role of Phebe and Jacques, making it an extra special occasion.  Emma, who is from Nottingham, left University and pursued her dreams of becoming an actress. A glittering career so far has seen her enjoy regular appearance at RSC in Stratford upon Avon and, whilst theatre is her first love, she has also appeared in a host of TV programmes.

Lifting the lid on an amazing history

When visiting historic properties people often try and imagine what happened there in days gone by and, if walls could talk, what stories they may have to tell!  One local house, Hodsock Priory, located on the border of South Yorkshire/North Nottinghamshire opened its doors for the inaugural ‘Secrets of Hodsock’ event -  which took place during the Historic Houses Association(HHA) ‘Museums at Night’ programme -  and visitors were delighted to discover that there was a lot more to Hodsock than even the owner knew!
